In his fifth solo exhibition at x-ist, Ali Bilge Akkaya invites the viewer on a journey between city and mind with “Roadmaps to Hidden Imagery.” The artist’s works, where architectural elements and geometric arrangements meet the complexity of urban life in a simple aesthetic, invite the audience to explore hidden images beyond familiar spaces.
Akkaya’s photographs present architectural structures from various cities around the world through simplified compositions. Each frame is constructed in a minimal language that questions the solitude of modern life and the relationship between the city and the individual. The frame in the artist’s works acts not only as a boundary but also as an organic connection that adds depth to the photograph and creates an optical illusion. The harmony of the frame with the space draws the viewer into the work, taking the visual experience a step further.
The exhibition also draws attention to Ali Bilge Akkaya’s inclusion of a sculpture for the first time. This work, titled “Lair” explores the artist’s understanding of geometric form in a three-dimensional structure, offering a new experience for the viewer by allowing them to discover hidden images.
The “Roadmaps to Hidden Imagery” exhibition can be viewed at x-ist in Beyoğlu between 21 November - 21 December 2024.
