Ansen’s 12th solo exhibition, HUMAN(in)RACE, delves into the relationship between power and ambition within the theme of “Power and Humanity,” questioning the interplay between individuals and societies. Exploring the boundaries of human nature, the exhibition addresses the fine line between creativity and destruction, focusing on what humanity can achieve within the “race” of existence.
The title, HUMAN(in)RACE, merges two meanings: the concept of “human” and the phenomenon of “race.” This blend emphasizes humanity’s endless struggle with itself, nature, and history. The exhibition examines how humanity’s ambitions and quest for power, from the past to the present, have sparked creativity yet often turned into destruction, presenting examples from various periods and geographies.
In his works, Ansen highlights the dominion of humans over nature and their relentless drive for power, using a humorous and ironic narrative. His pieces frequently feature elements of fantastic storytelling, ironic expression, and explorations of the conflicts between the human ego and the super-ego. The artist offers a profound exploration of the stories hidden behind appearances, inviting viewers on a journey of discovery.
The exhibition presents works that bring together various disciplines of plastic arts, blending historical and imaginative elements into a cohesive whole. Enriched with references to world literature, distinguished texts, and mythology, the pieces provoke a reconsideration of the relationship between power and authority.
Ansen’s narrative style, incorporating both storytelling and diverse materials, engages the viewer in a visually compelling journey. Through HUMAN(in)RACE, he invites audiences to actively participate in questioning the internal dynamics of individuals and society, creating a call for deeper understanding and reflection.
In Pursuit of Power and Ambition: HUMAN(in)RACE will be on display at x-ist from December 26, 2024, to January 25, 2025.
