x-ist’s discovery series Intersection which brings together young talents presents its seventh edition between May 13 and July 2, 2022.
x-ist’s mission to support the production of works by young artists inspired by a universal idea is built on its traditional series Intersection. Giving momentum to the careers of many prominent artists, Intersection’s current edition comprises the exclusive works of Büşra Çeğil, Pelda Aytaş, and Sayna Soleimanpour.
Producing with sociological and psycho-analytical elements, Büşra Çeğil and her works through which she builds connections on emotions by deforming objects take their place at x-ist’s gallery space. The artist participates in the series Intersection VII with her works “Mourning” which focuses on rethinking ways of remembrance through the direction of senses with the explosion at the Ankara Station as its subject matter and “When the Waters Rise” that examines the interpretation and displacement of a blurring civilization via Hasankeyf.
Using needle and thread as tools to question the history and identify of womanhood, Pelda Aytaş researches women’s possibility to be a subject of their own rather than an object of desire with her works at the exhibition Intersection VII. Through her works, the artist positions herself against the sacred reputation where female body’s position with her nurturing status and the fear against the exposed female body and, without any dependence on the audience, devises the necessity for women to go on a discovery and to take delight in their own bodies.
Sayna Soleimanpour partakes in Intersection VII with her self-portraits which have become a means of expression for her. Mostly inspired by hallucinations, the artist examines the issues of consciousness and awakening through her body and identity. Soleimanpour’s works at x-ist offer a selection from the series “Life is Plastic” in which she focuses on societal norms coded into one’s brain since childhood and the series “Naturemorte” which has been composed with inspiration from dreams.
Büşra Çeğil
Istanbul,1988
Having graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Department of Sculpture, the artist joined the Altes Spital Residence (2021) and Piksel New Media Artist Program (2020). She joined group exhibitions Parallax (2022) at Maze Gazhane, An Experience of Remembering (2022) at Kasa Galeri, Akbank 39. Contemporary Artists Award Exhibition (2021), and Base (2017). Her works have been exhibited at fairs including Contemporary Istanbul (2020) and Artworks Akaretler (2019).
Pelda Aytaş
Diyarbakır, 1992
Having graduated from Dicle University Ziya Gökalp Faculty of Education Department of Visual Arts Teaching in 2014, Aytaş completed her master’s degree at Artuklu University Faculty of Fine Arts in 2019. She has joined exhibitions including Mamut Art Project (2021), Mixer Sessions V (2021), Changing World Changing People (Rotary Young Artists Selection, 2021), and Joint Works (A4 Atölye, 2020)
Sayna Soleimanpour
Tabriz, 1996
Soleimanpour studied painting at Avni Akyol Fine Arts High School between 2010 and 2014 and started Mimar Sinan University Faculty of Fine Arts Department of Textile and Fashion Design in 2014. In 2019, she transitioned to the Department of Photography at the same university and continues her undergraduate studies. Her works have been exhibited at Mamut Art Project (2021), The Exposure Photography (Louvre Museum), and Istanbul Children and Youth Art Biennial.
