CANAN's video-animation “Exemplary” (Video animation, 27'30'', edition of 6, 2009) has become a part of the permanent collection of The Centre Pompidou Museum (Paris, France). “Exemplary”, whose narrative style reminds us of One Thousand and One Nights, takes in hand the repressive structures of marriage and family, the subjectification of the female body due to political and religious concerns and the use of the orientalist women figure and beauty as an instigator in today's consumption culture. Since 2009, the video has been exhibited in many international institutions and museumssuch as the 11thIstanbul Biennial (2009), CANAN's solo show at x-ist “Even A Cat Has A Mustache” (2010), Stedelijk Museum Schiedam (2012, Netherlands), Espace Culturel Louis Vuitton (2012, France) and MAK - Museum for Applied Arts (2013, Austria). The video has priorly been added to the collections of Istanbul Museum of Modern Art and Pinakothek der Moderne (Munich, Germany). The Centre Pompidou, which has been established in 1969 as a new type of multidisciplinary cultural center at the Plateau Beaubourg area of Paris and opened to the public in 1977, has the largest collection in Europe with more than 60,000 works of modern and contemporary art.
